Memorial BBQ for Ahmed Kotb
Sunday May 23 2010

See latest update below.

On Sunday May 23 2010 starting at 3:00 pm, Toronto Aikikai will be having a BBQ to commemorate the second anniversary of Ahmed's passing.

The BBQ will be pot-luck and will take place at Ahmed's tree, located at the Budapest Park on Lakeshore Boulevard and Parkside Drive, near the swimming pool.

A picnic area has been reserved and we will have two propane BBQs for our use. Plates, cups, cutlery, tables, and table cloths have already been taken care of, although we can always use some extra lawn chairs.

There is also a park right beside the area in case you want to bring your kids. If the weather is nice we may be able to see a beautiful sunset! If it rains we will reschedule.

To make sure we have a diverse menu there is a list posted on the dojo bulletin board where you can write what you will be bringing. If you can't make it to the dojo but will attend the BBQ, please let Yelitza (yelitza_cuevas[at]hotmail.com) and/or Brian (cdtobin[at]rogers.com) know what you will be bringing and they will post it on the list.

Directions to Budapest Park:
From the dojo, drive south down Roncesvalles and turn right at The Queensway to Colborne Lodge Rd, or drive south down Parkside Drive and turn right onto Lakeshore Blvd to Colborne Lodge Rd. Drive south on Colborne Lodge Rd and turn Left at Lakeshore Blvd, heading east. The Park is on the right.

INFORMATION UPDATE - May 19 2010

As most of you may recall, when the weather did not cooperate, Ahmed would come practice at the dojo on weekends instead of enjoying the outdoors and going skydiving.

As it turns out, according to the weather forecast, this Sunday will be cloudy with showers. It is fitting then, in deference to Ahmed's approach, to have a Memorial Practice at the dojo instead of a BBQ as originally planned.

Ahmed's Memorial Practice will start at 11:00 am right after the Children class, and will be followed by a pot-luck lunch at about 12:30 on the mat. Depending on how much it rains, we may be driving to Ahmed's tree afterward.

So please join us this Sunday May 23 at 11:00 for Ahmed's Memorial Practice and/or pot-luck lunch at 12:30 at the dojo.
